Is Linking Alexa to Your Email Safe? What Amazon Can Access

Linking a mailbox to Alexa+ can be reasonable for a personal account, but first check what Amazon will receive and who can speak to the nearby Echo. Amazon says it stores email-derived information such as contacts and upcoming events in the cloud. If you only want help composing a message, there is a narrower option.

Choose between drafting and sending

With the supported Email to Contacts feature, linking lets Alexa+ send from a supported account. Without linking, Alexa can prepare a draft and send it to your own inbox first. That second route is especially handy for two contacts with similar names: review the address, edit the wording and send from your normal mail app.

Read the actual permission request

Open More, Settings, Communication and look for Email my contacts. Check the account address and permissions on the provider’s approval screen. A familiar provider logo does not tell you the scope of access. If the address belongs to an employer, follow its mailbox policy before connecting it to a household assistant.

Plan how to disconnect

Amazon documents unlinking in the same communication settings. Also inspect connected apps in the mail provider’s security settings. Removing future access and erasing previously stored material are separate actions. Review Alexa Privacy if you want to manage voice history as well. Available providers and features can differ by region.

Common questions

Does my Amazon login email automatically link my inbox?

No. A sign-in address and a linked mailbox serve different purposes.

Can I use a work mailbox?

Only if your organisation permits the connection.

Will unlinking recall sent messages?

No. Recipients already have those messages.

Should I dictate confidential details?

Use your mail app privately if people nearby could hear.
